OTEE makes his debut on Open Water with Cloud Collision, a five-track EP that places rhythmic construction and atmospheric detail at the forefront. Based in Berlin, the DJ and producer draws on his experience behind the decks and in the studio to deliver a record built around patience, precision and the progressive development of dancefloor tension.

The opening track, “Cloud Collision”, sets out the principles that shape the release.

Eschewing oversized drops and dramatic structural shifts, OTEE works with repetition, subtle variations and a carefully managed relationship between percussion and space. Its effectiveness lies in the gradual evolution of the groove, resulting in club music that feels functional without sacrificing attention to detail.

“Moto” extends this approach through a closer exploration of rhythm and texture. The track maintains a steady forward drive, with its underlying rhythmic pattern providing the structure around which the remaining elements unfold. Rather than assigning each sound an independent focal point, OTEE concentrates on their interaction, allowing the arrangement to gain substance through accumulation.

“Aktion Reaktion” adds another layer to the EP’s rhythmic design. Its title implies a system of reciprocal forces, an idea that resonates with the interplay of tension and response within its club-focused electronic framework.

The production remains controlled throughout, with OTEE allowing the rhythmic elements to develop while maintaining the understated character that connects the five tracks.

On the B-side, “Retrograde” introduces a different sense of movement. Its title suggests a departure from linear progression, opening up a more reflective dimension within the EP without breaking from its established aesthetic. Repetition continues to provide the structural foundation, while incremental changes shape the track’s development. “Parabola” completes the sequence, invoking a curved trajectory that mirrors the release’s emphasis on gradual shifts rather than sudden changes in direction.

Taken together, the five tracks demonstrate OTEE’s understanding of the balance between production detail and dancefloor purpose. The loop-based, drum-led approach establishes a coherent rhythmic identity, while the atmospheric components introduce additional layers of depth. The arrangements remain practical in a club context but offer enough detail to sustain interest beyond their immediate function.

For Open Water, Cloud Collision represents both an introduction and a starting point. The EP is informed by Berlin’s club culture, although it avoids leaning too heavily on recognisable references or predetermined stylistic formulas. Its identity instead emerges from a focused treatment of rhythm, space and the gradual layering of energy.

Ultimately, Cloud Collision prioritises sustained development over spectacle. It is a debut designed for the deeper end of the dancefloor, where the value of a track lies in its ability to maintain momentum, establish an atmosphere and become an organic part of the collective experience.
